Lenny is the wind-up binocular toy from Andy’s room who appeared in Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and as cameo in Toy Story 3. While he was not a major character in any of the Toy Story movies, he played a significant role in helping the toys get a better look at any action that was going on, particularly during the moving van scene in the first movie. So although he was not a major character, he was definitely a very memorable and loveable character.
Now there have been a number of Lenny toys that have been released, but these Lenny toys are usually part of a set and are not very accurate to the movie and/or are not to scale. There is a bit of a debate amongst Toy Story collectors about which Lenny toy is the most film accurate toy, but the general consensus is that the Disney On Ice Lenny is the most film accurate toy available. The Disney on Ice Lenny toy is of course a Disney on Ice exclusive and it is getting harder and harder to get hold of one of these toys.
While this toy is very well made and looks very accurate to the movie, there are obviously quite a few inaccuracies such as the toy not being a wind up toy, the eyes, and most importantly, the scale. As you can see from the image from the movie when Woody holds up Lenny to see what’s going on in Sid’s yard, this Disney on Ice Lenny scaling is not right. While the scaling does come close, this Disney on Ice Lenny is too big. This is because the toy needs to be big enough to function actual binoculars for most everyone.
While there are a number of movie inaccuracies, overall I think this is a very well made toy and is the most movie accurate Lenny you will find. This Lenny toy is particularly great for the Toy Story collectors out there trying to collect the most movie accurate toys possible. As a collector’s piece, it is absolutely stunning and it is getting harder and harder to find. Considering its rarity, when the Disney on Ice Lenny does pop up on eBay, it usually comes up for a reasonable cost compared to other equally rare Toy Story toys. This Lenny usually comes up for anywhere between $30.00 – $80.00 and while this is a little expensive if it comes up on the higher end, I definitely think it’s worth it, especially for toy collectors. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a cheaper option that is still accurate to the movie, I would opt for the Burger King Lenny Toy. The Burger King version looks incredibly accurate to the movie, but the problem from a collector’s point of view is of course his scaling as he is far too small to be to scale to other Toy Story collection pieces.
No matter which Lenny you opt for, there is no doubt he was a great character from the movie and is an absolute must have for any Toy Story collection. For all the Toy Story collectors out there, Happy Hunting!
