By The scene with the magical drink labelled “Drink Me” from the 1951 Disney Alice in Wonderland movie is an iconic scene burned into our memories as it was our first taste of what Wonderland had in store for Alice.
Primark released this very cute and very affordable Alice in Wonderland Drink Me coin purse following the very successful Beauty and the Beast coin purse range in 2017. There were also other Alice in Wonderland themed coin purses including The White Rabbit, The March Hare, and the Cheshire Cat. The coin purse is not only a good representation of the “Drink Me” drink itself but also the chaos that followed after Alice took a sip.
The Coin Purse
The Alice in Wonderland Drink Me coin purse is a bottle shaped purse with a “Drink Me” label tied around the neck of the bottle and Alice printed on the front floating around a silver glittery sea.
The purse is approximately 5 inches in height and just under 3 inches wide. It is a functional coin purse with a zipper on the back which runs from the base up to the neck of the bottle. The bag was available from Primark for £5.00. Whilst £5 is very affordable, I did think it was a tiny bit overpriced. I think it would have been fairer to price it at £3.00 or £4.00.
The bottle portion of the bag is a lovely pastel blue colour. Alice printed on the front is absolutely stunning and looks exactly like Alice as we see her in the movie. Her hair is completely covered in gold glitter and the good news is that it does not shed as much glitter as other glittery products. Presumably a good fabric glue was used to seal the glitter. Alice is floating on top of a sea of silvery glitter which was also sealed very well.
The lid of the bottle is also all gold and glittery but it does not actually open. You can only open the bag using the zipper at the back. The top of the lid is just glued on to the bag and you can see the glue which unfortunately makes it look a little cheap.
Practicality
Like all of Primark’s Disney coin purses, this is an adorable purse and makes for a great display piece but is not the most practical purse. It has more than enough room for pocket change but if you were to carry this in a handbag, it will wear and get crushed very quickly. Its practical use has a very limited life, but it is a lasting display piece.
The Drink Me Label
What drew me to purchase this bag is the adorable “Drink Me” label. The label is about 2½ inches long and just under 1½ inches wide. It is a beautiful pastel pink colour and has the words “Drink Me” printed on the label in a shiny gold with a black outline. The label is removable as it is merely wrapped around the neck of the bottle with a gold elastic band. Whilst I do wish they had used something a little nicer than a cheap elastic band, it is a bonus that the label can be removed so you can get creative and tie the label on to the anything. You could tie it on to a makeup bag, your purse, your keys, or even use it in gift wrapping.
Geekkie Opinion
Unfortunately at the time of this post the purse is no longer available in Primark. However if you wish to get your hands on this purse, it is widely available online. Even better, the prices are lower than what it was in the store! It is even available on Amazon for £3.99 and many eBay sellers are listing the purse for a similar price. I would not recommend paying any more than £5 and even then, that is on the pricey side!
It was wonderful to see Primark release another series of coin purses from another beloved classic Disney movie. It feels like the phase has passed so unfortunately I see fewer and fewer Disney replicas and purses. There has of course been a pandemic since the release of these Disney purses so fingers crossed we will see products like this again!
This Alice in Wonderland Drink Me coin purse is adorable, unique, and very affordable. Is it a valuable replica you must get your hands on? No. It also isn’t a very practical coin purse but nonetheless, it is a cute and affordable display piece for a Disney collector or Alice in Wonderland fan.
