By Although Yoshi is now my character of choice when I play any Nintendo game, Donkey Kong will always have a very, very special place in my heart. As a 90s baby, the SNES was the first console I ever owned and it was Donkey Kong Country that introduced me to do the world of Nintendo and gaming. When I think of playing video game, these are the first images that pop into my head:
Donkey Kong Country is an absolute classic and I don’t think there is any kid in the 90s that didn’t at least try playing this game. While the Donkey Kong Country trilogy is what resonates with me, the Donkey Kong character has grown and changed over decades and is loved across generations.
On one my toy hunts I stumbled across this Donkey Kong Super Mario Large Figure. This figure made me feel really nostalgic and happy so I figured it would make a really nice addition to my Nintendo collection. This Donkey Kong figure is part of the Series 1 Super Mario Large Figure Collection, which consists of: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Donkey Kong, Daisy, and Koopa Troopa. This collection was manufactured by Goldie and there is a Goldie signature on the bottom of Donkey Kong’s left foot.
The figure itself is highly detailed and very well made. This collection was manufactured in 2012, so Donkey Kong has a very modern and detailed look rather than the retro look. One aspect of this figure that really stands out is the tie. The tie is vinyl and it sticks out and upwards as if it is hanging off Donkey Kong’s chest when he’s walking on all fours. It’s a very small thing, but I think the way the tie is positioned and painted just makes the figure.The texturing on his body is also very well done and detailed. I think the figure overall looks really great and I don’t have a single complaint. I think this is a figure that would look great on display in or out of the box.
If you’re a Donkey Kong fan, new or old school, I think this is a great figure for any Nintendo collection. With regards to the entire large figure collection, I don’t think this is a collection worth completing for the sake of it. There are so many Super Mario character collections out there, and there are still more to come, so I think you should pick and choose the characters that you like and genuinely want to have for your collection. The figures are a nice size and are very well made but there is no point in purchasing a character you don’t like for the sake of completing a collection.
