Toy Story Stinky Pete Toy

Toy Story Shifty Shootin’ Prospector

A movie accurate Epoch Prospector Pete in the box is the holy grail of the toy story collecting world. It is  incredibly rare and expensive and it will be a long, long while until I get my hands on one.

My hunt for the holy grail of the Toy Story world was no mystery to my family and while no one can get their hands on one without spending an arm and a leg, my sweet mother-in-law decided to surprise me this Christmas with this Mattell Shifty Shootin’ Prospector toy. While it may not be an Epoch Prospector Pete, it is still a very rare and well made toy that I was very grateful to have and add to my Toy Story collection.

This Shifty Shootin’ Prospector Pete toy was made by Mattell in 1999. This Prospector Pete toy measures approximately 5″ in height and comes with a removable hat, a firing canon, and a pick axe attached to a cannon ball. Unfortunately my Shifty Shootin’ Prospector is missing his cannon as finding a complete Shifty Shootin’ Prospector complete with accessories is quite rare. The missing cannon doesn’t bother me very much as the Stinky Pete toy did not have a cannon in his box in the movie. The important thing is I have Stinky Pete, his hat, and his pick axe.

As this Shifty Shootin’ Prospector toy is an official Toy Story toy, it is very detailed and very well made. Stinky Pete’s hat is made of vinyl and is removable to reveal the Prospector’s bald head. The Prospector has posable arms and head, although I would be careful with turning his head too far to the side. The Prospector’s beard is a bit long and when you turn his head to the side, the beard will hit his shoulders and push his head upwards which will loosen the head piece and potentially cause it to fall off. The beard itself is actually very well done and very detailed. The Prospector’s overalls are beautifully textured to resemble denim and even have two gold coloured buttons with detailing of two crossed pick axes on each button. He also has a yellow plaid neck scarf around his neck, which is attached to his body.

The Prospector’s pick axe accessory is approximately 2.5″ in length and is  meant to be inserted into the shooting cannon so that Prospector can be a Stinky Pete and shoot his pick axe at all the space toys. The pick axe is attached to a black, plastic cannon ball with a piece of black string to make sure the axe does not go too far.

This toy is great for display as he can easily stand on his own, however because of Prospector Pete’s figure and tiny feet, he is easily tipped over if he is touched or pushed. While this may not be the rare and expensive Epoch Prospector Pete in the box, this is a fantastic and detailed toy for any Toy Story fan and Toy Story collector. He may not THE rarest toy, however he is still very rare. The only complaint I have is that he is not to scale, but of course this is to be expected. If you are looking for a substitute for the holy grail Stinky Pete, I highly recommend this Shift Shootin’ Prospector as it s a wonderful Toy Story collector piece.
