By I must admit I wasn’t originally a huge fan of the Tsum Tsum plushies when they were first released because although I think they’re cute, I have been collecting the large Disney plush toys for years and I didn’t want to start another Disney plush collection from scratch. However, I’m sure most of you know that Tsum Tsums have been incredibly successful in a very short period of time and have thus expanded way beyond just plushies. There are now Tsum Tsum shirts, pencils, dishware, lamps, and vinyl figures with accessories. When I saw the vinyl figures, I knew Tsum Tsums were now something I could get on board with.
Before I even got a chance to purchase any of the vinyl figures, I got this incredibly adorable Toy Story Aliens “Tsum Tsum” Stylus with Charm from the Disney Store as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. This stylus has a headphone jack that fits into your phone or tablet so that the stylus pen and charm can dangle freely. The charm is approximately 2cm in height and consists of two mini vinyl Tsum Tsum aliens stacked on top of each other. The stylus pen itself is green and has little alien head images all around. A nice touch is that the stylus pen does extend another 2cm (approximately) for easier use. The Toy Story aliens are not your only choice of charm and stylus, there is also a Chip N’ Dale stylus with charm and a Jack Skellington and Zero stylus with charm.
The stylus and the charm look great and make for a lovely accessory on my phone, but the most unfortunate thing about this product is that it was very poorly made. After opening the package, it wasn’t even 2 minutes before the stylus pen completely broke off (as you can see in the image). I thought this may just be unlucky but after reading the reviews on the Disney store website, it appears that many people have had the same problem. I was able to easily fix the problem with a little crazy glue and now my stylus pen is firmly attached to the charm. Although it was an easy fix, the stylus should not be breaking off considering that this item is not particularly cheap at £6.95 (approximately $10.00 USD).
This item is a bit of a tough call for me. I think the stylus and the charm look great but unfortunately it is incredibly likely that if you purchase this stylus, it will break. Although it is an easy fix, it is more about the principle that if you purchase an item, it should remain in tact for a reasonable amount of time. Even though it is a quick fix, I have also read that many people’s charms have broken off, which wouldn’t be very easy to fix because if it falls off when you’re out and about using your phone, the charm would simply be gone. I think this stylus will all boil down to personal preference. The stylus and charm do look great, so if you don’t mind taking the risk of losing the stylus or charm, it is worth purchasing. However, if you want bang for your buck, I would stay away from this item, as the stylus and charm are both significant flight risks. My little aliens and I may part ways in the near future, but in the meantime, I’ll enjoy their company while it lasts 🙂
